KCNJ2
Associated conditions:
- Arrhythmia
KCNJ2 makes the Kir2.1 potassium channel, which helps reset the electrical charge of heart and muscle cells after each beat. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called Andersen-Tawil syndrome, combining irregular heart rhythms with episodes of muscle weakness. Knowing your genetic status enables rhythm monitoring and helps avoid triggers.

Arrhythmia
An arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm. Inherited forms can cause fast, irregular or dangerous rhythms and, rarely, sudden collapse, so carriers benefit from heart-rhythm testing, sometimes medication, and avoiding specific triggers.
