KCNH2
Associated conditions:
- Arrhythmia
KCNH2 makes the hERG potassium channel that lets heart cells reset their electrical charge between beats. Genetic changes in this gene slow this recharging and are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called long QT syndrome type 2, which can trigger sudden dangerous heart rhythms, fainting or cardiac arrest. Knowing your genetic status enables avoiding certain medications and having cardiac monitoring.

Arrhythmia
An arrhythmia is an abnormal heart rhythm. Inherited forms can cause fast, irregular or dangerous rhythms and, rarely, sudden collapse, so carriers benefit from heart-rhythm testing, sometimes medication, and avoiding specific triggers.
