TMEM127

Associated conditions:

  • Endocrine cancer

TMEM127 is a tumour-suppressor gene that keeps the mTOR cell-growth pathway in check. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant predisposition to phaeochromocytoma and related paragangliomas, hormone-secreting tumours that can spike blood pressure. Knowing your genetic status enables regular blood-pressure, hormone and imaging surveillance.

Endocrine cancer

Endocrine cancers affect hormone-producing glands such as the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands or pancreatic islet cells. Inherited variants can drive tumours in one or more of these glands, so awareness supports periodic hormone testing and imaging to catch changes early.
