CTNNA1

Associated conditions:

  • Stomach cancer

CTNNA1 makes alpha-E-catenin, a protein that helps neighboring cells stick tightly together to form stable tissue. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called hereditary diffuse gastric cancer, a hard-to-detect stomach cancer that spreads within the stomach wall. Knowing your genetic status enables close monitoring and, sometimes, preventive stomach removal.

Conditions linked to CTNNA1

Stomach cancer

Gastric (stomach) cancer forms in the lining of the stomach. Some inherited variants raise its risk, occasionally as a hard-to-detect diffuse type, so carriers may be offered specialist endoscopic surveillance or, in high-risk syndromes, preventive options.
