RUNX1
Associated conditions:
- Haematological cancer
RUNX1 is a master switch that directs blood cells, including platelets, to develop properly. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition causing lifelong low or poorly working platelets with easy bruising or bleeding, and a substantial lifetime risk of leukaemia or myelodysplasia. Knowing your genetic status enables regular blood monitoring.
Conditions linked to RUNX1
Haematological cancer
Haematological cancers affect the blood and bone marrow, including leukaemias and lymphomas. Some inherited variants raise their risk, so carriers benefit from awareness of relevant symptoms and, in some syndromes, periodic blood-count monitoring.
