MAX
Associated conditions:
- Endocrine cancer
MAX makes a transcription factor that partners with MYC to control when cells grow and divide. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant raised risk of phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas, tumours of the adrenal glands and nervous system. Knowing your genetic status enables regular biochemical and imaging surveillance to catch these tumours early, when they are most treatable.

Endocrine cancer
Endocrine cancers affect hormone-producing glands such as the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands or pancreatic islet cells. Inherited variants can drive tumours in one or more of these glands, so awareness supports periodic hormone testing and imaging to catch changes early.
