LDLRAP1
Associated conditions:
- Hypercholesterolaemia
LDLRAP1 makes a helper protein that lets liver cells pull cholesterol-carrying LDL particles out of the blood. Genetic changes in both copies of this gene are associated with an autosomal recessive condition causing LDL cholesterol to climb very high from childhood and early heart disease. Knowing your genetic status enables aggressive cholesterol-lowering treatment to protect the arteries.
Conditions linked to LDLRAP1
Hypercholesterolaemia
Familial hypercholesterolaemia causes very high LDL (harmful) cholesterol from birth, raising the risk of early heart disease. It is highly treatable with cholesterol-lowering medication and lifestyle steps, so early diagnosis is protective.
