ACTA2
Associated conditions:
- Aortopathy
ACTA2 makes a smooth-muscle protein that lets artery walls contract and hold their shape. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant weakening of the aorta, the body's main artery, so it can balloon into an aneurysm or tear suddenly. Knowing your genetic status enables regular imaging and, often, preventive surgery or blood-pressure control.
Conditions linked to ACTA2
Aortopathy
Aortopathy refers to weakening or widening (aneurysm) of the aorta, the body’s main artery. Inherited forms can lead to dangerous enlargement or tearing, so carriers are monitored with regular imaging and blood-pressure control, with surgery considered before the aorta reaches a risky size.
