BMPR2

Associated conditions:

  • High blood pressure

BMPR2 makes a cell-surface receptor that signals blood-vessel cells to stop overgrowing. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition, and are the main cause of heritable pulmonary arterial hypertension, where lung arteries narrow and strain the heart, though not everyone with a fault develops disease. Knowing your genetic status enables monitoring so treatment can start early.

Conditions linked to BMPR2

High blood pressure

High blood pressure (hypertension) makes the heart and arteries work harder and, over time, raises the risk of heart, kidney and blood-vessel problems. Inherited forms exist, so knowing your risk supports regular monitoring and early treatment.
