LDLR

Associated conditions:

  • Hypercholesterolaemia

LDLR makes the receptor that pulls LDL (bad) cholesterol out of the blood, mainly in the liver. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called familial hypercholesterolaemia, the most common cause of very high cholesterol from birth and a major driver of early heart attacks. Knowing your genetic status enables cholesterol-lowering treatment to start early and protect the arteries.

Conditions linked to LDLR

Hypercholesterolaemia

Familial hypercholesterolaemia causes very high LDL (harmful) cholesterol from birth, raising the risk of early heart disease. It is highly treatable with cholesterol-lowering medication and lifestyle steps, so early diagnosis is protective.
