MEFV
Associated conditions:
- Familial Mediterranean Fever
MEFV makes pyrin, a protein that helps control the body's inflammation alarm system. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal recessive condition called familial Mediterranean fever, leaving that alarm too easily triggered and causing recurring attacks of fever and pain. Knowing your genetic status enables daily colchicine treatment, which prevents these flares and guards against a serious buildup of protein in the kidneys.

Familial Mediterranean Fever
Familial Mediterranean Fever is an inherited condition causing recurring attacks of fever with pain in the abdomen, chest or joints. Daily colchicine prevents most attacks and protects against a long-term kidney complication, so diagnosis is important.
