Comprehensive Carrier Screening for Donor Recipients with Genea
Comprehensive Carrier Screening for Donor Recipients with Genea
This test is available to Genea sperm donor recipients.
Comprehensive carrier screening is an at-home genetic test that checks to see if you have a higher chance of having a baby with a serious inherited genetic disease. It tests 591 genes for genetic conditions that can affect children, including cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, Tay-Sachs Disease, and fragile X syndrome.
This panel of 591 genes matches most closely with the list of genes Genea sperm bank donors, and most of the international sperm bank donors have testing for.
There is screening available for a broader number of genes (700+) at no added cost, or for a smaller number of genes (3-16 conditions only) for which there is a Medicare rebate. However, if you opt for a different test, there is a chance that you and the donor will not be tested for the same conditions you each are found to carry.
