RBM20
Associated conditions:
- Cardiomyopathy
RBM20 edits the genetic instructions for titin and other proteins that give heart muscle its elasticity and coordinated contraction. Genetic changes in this gene produce faulty editing and are associated with an autosomal dominant, aggressive dilated cardiomyopathy with early heart failure and rhythm problems. Knowing your genetic status enables early monitoring and a defibrillator that can be lifesaving.

Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy is disease of the heart muscle that can make it thickened, enlarged or weakened. Inherited forms can affect the heart’s pumping or rhythm, so carriers are monitored with heart scans and ECGs and treated early to protect heart function.
