MYBPC3

Associated conditions:

  • Cardiomyopathy

MYBPC3 makes cardiac myosin binding protein C, which supports and fine-tunes the tiny motor units that make heart muscle contract. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition and are the most common cause of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle thickens abnormally. Knowing your genetic status enables monitoring and steps to lower the risk of dangerous rhythms.

Conditions linked to MYBPC3

Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is disease of the heart muscle that can make it thickened, enlarged or weakened. Inherited forms can affect the heart’s pumping or rhythm, so carriers are monitored with heart scans and ECGs and treated early to protect heart function.
