PKD2

Associated conditions:

  • Polycystic kidney disease

PKD2 makes polycystin-2, a channel that manages calcium signals keeping kidney tubules the right shape. Genetic changes in this gene are associated with an autosomal dominant condition called polycystic kidney disease, generally milder than the PKD1 form, in which fluid-filled cysts slowly enlarge the kidneys and can lead to kidney failure. Knowing your genetic status enables early monitoring and blood-pressure control that help preserve function.

Conditions linked to PKD2

Polycystic kidney disease

Polycystic kidney disease causes fluid-filled cysts to grow in the kidneys, which can enlarge them, reduce function over time and raise blood pressure. Monitoring kidney function and blood pressure, along with newer treatments, helps protect the kidneys.
